How the change of seasons can affect your feet:

Summer has ended, and soon, winter will be upon us, which means a colder, drier climate for your body, of which your feet, which goes through adjustments when faced with temperature changes, affecting your skin, joints, possibly even cause fluid accumulation

If you happen to suffer from a foot condition, you might notice these changes more than other people, although they might occur to people without any complications.

Cracked and peeling skin:

Colder air may lead to dry skin, and sometimes even bleeding. However, it is actually the combination of temperature fluctuations, from warm indoors to cold outdoors, combined with low humidity that lead to cracked skin and cracked heels, along with inflammation, pain, and even bleeding.

To remedy this, it is important to keep a good footcare routine, by making sure to moisturize and exfoliate well, as well as to wearing socks and comfortable shoes to avoid unwanted chafing.

Swollen feet:

swollen feet and ankles can some sometimes be caused by season and weather-related reasons. If you happen to suffer from diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, or another issue that causes swelling, the effects are much worse when the weather is humid.

Maintaining a healthy diet can help however; by keeping a low sodium intake, moving frequently and exercising, and having healthy eating habits can help your body pump blood more efficiently and reduce or prevent fluid accumulation in the feet and ankles.

You can also try compression stockings to relieve your feet by allowing better blood circulation, or consider a foot soak and scrub to further improve your circulation.

Weight fluctuations:

When the weather is cold, people tend to spend more time indoors, which can lead to increased inactivity and poor eating choices, which can ultimately cause weight gain. This increase adds more pressure to your feet’s ligaments and tendons and can sometimes cause pain.

Wearing proper fitting shoes can help you cope with foot pain, while using custom orthotics, can also help correct your posture and alleviate symptoms in the heel, arch, ball of the foot, ankles and even the knees.
