Comfort for New Mothers

Mother’s day is just around the corner, and mothers all over the world will be celebrating and celebrated with love and appreciation for all their efforts and for everything they do for us on a daily basis.

However, foot health can be a source of anxiety for both new and expectant mothers, who may wonder about the best ways to care of in their own feet. Ranging from back pain to feet that are swollen and sore, the increase in weight caused by pregnancy puts more pressure on the foot, flattening the arch and elongating the feet enough to prompt a change in shoe size.

Control weight gain. Weight gain is inevitable when it comes to pregnancy, however it is also the most likely reason for which your foot expands. Do your best to follow your obstetrician’s guidelines for how much weight you should gain throughout the pregnancy.

A good routine. Another way of easing your pregnancy, is to keep a good foot care routine; making sure that your feet are clean by washing them every day, moisturizing them often, and changing your socks daily can go a long way in maintaining their wellbeing.

Comfort and support. Whenever choosing footwear, keep comfort and arch support in mind; due to the extra weight and pressure on your feet for nine months, you will need a shoe that provides support and cushioning. Opt for shoes with thicker soles all the while avoiding thin-soled footwear (including flip-flops and ballet flats) to help avoid flattening your arches, and subsequently, back pains and gait issues.

Rest time. Taking some time off to allow your feet to rest is essential; other than relieving them from the pressure of your long days and extra gained weight, raising your legs can, in fact, promote blood circulation and give your heels and soles some well-deserved time off.

Reflexology. Reflexology is yet another way by which you can relieve and alleviate the stress and strain on your feet. Aside from improving circulation, they can boost your general wellbeing by lowering your levels of anxiety, improving nerve functions, and providing you with well-needed relaxation.
